A Message from Mr. Trute and Ms. Petinarelis
We were happy to see our families at our volunteer tea this week. We are grateful for the time you give to make learning experiences enriching for our students. Our end of year Carnival was a blast! We are grateful for our School Council and our volunteers in making this event exciting and fun! Thank you to all who attended the carnival. It was nice seeing our families celebrating together. Our grade 3 students this week participated in a swim to survive program where they learned water safety skills. It was a pleasure seeing them persevere and build their swimming skills. We look forward to sharing the accomplishments of our grade 8 graduates this coming week! A reminder to please check the lost and found for items by June 26.
We value your partnership in your child’s education.
Regards,
Mr. Trute, Principal, (Retired on Contract) and Ms. Petinarelis, Vice Principal

Warm Weather Reminders
As the warmer weather is upon us, please note warm weather reminders below.
Hydration is Key: Please send your child to school with a refillable water bottle daily. We encourage frequent water breaks throughout the day.
Dress Appropriately for the Weather: Lightweight, light-colored, and breathable clothing is best.
Sun Protection: Please apply sunscreen before school and consider sending your child with a hat and sunglasses for outdoor recess.
We also have a school Hot weather Plan which includes limited time outside under hot temperatures as well as cooling strategies and locations in the school.
Active Travel-E scooters and E bikes not Permitted for Under Age 16
YRDSB continues to encourage families to use safe transportation to and from school. We encourage students to use active school travel whenever possible. Active travel refers to any form of human-powered transportation, including walking, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding, and scootering.
School Property
Students using any transportation device, whether electronic or not-electronic, must dismount before arriving on school property. This includes all sidewalks, pathways, and walkways on school grounds. Please note that the school is not responsible for lost or damaged equipment.
Provincial Regulations
These modes of travel offer many physical, mental, and community benefits. Please visit the Ontario website for a full list of regulations. Every cyclist under 18 must wear a properly fitting bike helmet. Some students may also choose to use electronically assisted devices, such as e‑scooters or e‑bikes. In Ontario, you must be 16 or older to ride an e-scooter or e-bike. When riding e‑scooters or e‑bikes, it is important that students follow all applicable municipal regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
Municipal Regulations
Before riding any device, it is important for students and families to be aware of the regulations set by their local municipality.
As you may be aware, City Council recently approved the Micromobility Strategy in September 2025 to provide guidance on the deployment, regulation, and planning of safe micromobility in Richmond Hill. Micromobility refers to various types of low-speed, lightweight, wheeled mobility devices that are often electrified. Most commonly, it refers to electric bicycles (e-bikes) and kick-style electric scooters (e-scooters).
Please see the linked postcard, that includes important information and reminders regarding the safe use of e-scooters.
We would like to highlight three key e-scooter by-laws:
E-scooter riders must be at least 16 years old (therefore, elementary school students should NOT use an e-scooter to travel to school)
Riders aged 18 and under are required to wear helmets
E-scooters are prohibited on sidewalks
Respectful Riding
Pedestrians always have the right of way. Students are expected to ride with caution by slowing down, using a bell when approaching others, and passing on the left. Wearing reflective clothing is encouraged to increase visibility and promote safer travel.
For more information, parents are encouraged to visit:

Thank you for your cooperation.

New Online Hub Supports Students’ Transitions
Students experience transitions throughout their school day and their school years. Supporting these transitions is a shared effort. YRDSB has launched a new Transition Hub with resources to support all students and their families during times of change. It includes tips for all families with specific information and strategies to support students with special education needs.
You will find helpful information, clear steps and strategies to support transitions. You can explore tips and resources by grade level or by different categories such as advocacy, daily transitions and transitioning to a new school. The content can also be translated using the built-in web translation tool. We invite you to explore the new Transitions Hub for tips to support your child.
