Student-Led Arts Showcase
We are thrilled to announce a very special event at Bayview Hill Elementary School: our first-ever Student-Led Creative Showcase!
This exciting evening is the passion project of one of our talented Grade 8 students, Eric, and his team. It's designed to celebrate the diverse creativity within our student community, showcasing art purely for the joy of expression and creation. This initiative stems from the idea that our students have a wealth of creativity -- from sketching, drawing, and painting to dance, music, digital art, and more -- that deserves to be shared and celebrated for its own sake.
The event will take place here at the school on Thursday, June 5th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will feature:
- Art Gallery Displays: Hallways filled with student sketches, drawings, paintings, digital art, animations, sculptures, and more.
- Live Performances: A showcase of student talents in dance, drama, musical theatre, instrumental music, singing, and other presentations.
This event is all about our students. Does your child love to create? We'd love to display their work!
Artwork Submissions: Paintings, drawings, items from sketchbooks, digital art, animations, sculptures, and any other creative pieces. Please bring your physical artwork to Room 109 or share digital art with justin.nanu@gapps.yrdsb.ca by Friday, May 30
Live Performances: We are looking for students interested in showcasing their talents in dance, drama, music, singing, or any other performance art. Please sign up on the sheet by the gym doors. We will call all live performers to meet next week. Listen to announcements.
This event is free for all families! To help us get an idea of numbers for planning, we kindly ask that you indicate your attendance via School Cash Online. A post will go up next week.
This event is made possible by Eric and his student team, with support from Ms. Chen, Ms. David, Ms. Ho, Ms. Myers, Mr. Nanu, and Ms. Wilson.
Questions? Please contact Justin Nanu at justin.nanu@yrdsb.ca
We are incredibly excited to celebrate our students' wonderful creativity with you!
Sincerely, The Student-Led Creative Showcase Team

Thursday, June 26, 2025 - Early Release Day
All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being. On Thursday, June 26, 2025, an early release day will take place to allow elementary staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon. These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025 only. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 pm.
Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bussed to and from school will receive transportation at this time. Families whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
YRDSB Math Resources Family Survey
As part of the York Region District School Board’s Math Achievement Action Plan, our school is committed to enhancing student success in mathematics through improved teaching strategies, in-class support, and access to resources.
Your input is valuable in helping us better understand how current resources are supporting your child’s learning and how we can continue to improve. Please take a moment to complete the 2 question Family Feedback Survey on Math Resources (https://bit.ly/YRDSBFamilyMathSurvey) and share your thoughts on the math resources available to your child to support learning at home and in the classroom. Please complete this survey by Friday, June 6, 2025.
