Student-Led Arts Showcase

We are thrilled to announce a very special event at Bayview Hill Elementary School: our first-ever Student-Led Creative Showcase!

This exciting evening is the passion project of one of our talented Grade 8 students, Eric, and his team. It's designed to celebrate the diverse creativity within our student community, showcasing art purely for the joy of expression and creation. This initiative stems from the idea that our students have a wealth of creativity -- from sketching, drawing, and painting to dance, music, digital art, and more -- that deserves to be shared and celebrated for its own sake.

The event will take place here at the school on Thursday, June 5th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm and will feature:

  • Art Gallery Displays: Hallways filled with student sketches, drawings, paintings, digital art, animations, sculptures, and more.
  • Live Performances: A showcase of student talents in dance, drama, musical theatre, instrumental music, singing, and other presentations.

This event is all about our students. Does your child love to create? We'd love to display their work!

This event is free for all families! To help us get an idea of numbers for planning, we kindly ask that you indicate your attendance via School Cash Online.

This event is made possible by Eric and his student team, with support from Ms. Chen, Ms. David, Ms. Ho, Ms. Myers, Mr. Nanu, and Ms. Wilson.

Questions? Please contact Justin Nanu at justin.nanu@yrdsb.ca

We are incredibly excited to celebrate our students' wonderful creativity with you!

Sincerely,  The Student-Led Creative Showcase Team

Pride Month

June is Pride Month, an opportunity for schools to celebrate diversity in our communities, and uplift the voices, accomplishments, and activism of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. While diverse identities and ways of being have always existed, much of the world has specifically celebrated Pride Month in June since 1969.

YRDSB is unwavering in its ongoing commitment to providing identity-affirming education in all schools, recognizing that 2SLGBTQIA+ students, families, and allies are in every classroom. It is the expectation of the York Region District School Board that 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusive and affirming education is taking place year-round in all classes to ensure all students learn about gender identity, homophobia, and transphobia, as well as the contributions and lives of 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

Bike/Roll to School Week

Between June 2-6, BHES will be participating in Bike/Roll to School Week. This initiative provides an opportunity for students to try riding or rolling  to school for the first time, learn new skills, connect with others, or have fun exploring the neighbourhood and nature. We encourage students to ride/roll to school.

We Need a New School Playground - Stay Tuned!

Our current school playground is almost 15 years old and needs to be replaced. Our BHES Community in partnership with our School Council are coming together to create a fundraising plan. Come join us, we value your input!
